"Can Metabolic Typing Fix My Health Problem?"

I often recommend that my patients complete the Advanced Metabolic Typing process to support their healing process. When we talk about this I am commonly asked if I think that Metabolic Typing will 'fix' whatever health concern is foremost in their mind.

For those not familiar with it, Metabolic Typing offers an easy way to determine the optimal food choices for bringing your body back into metabolic balance.

When people ask me if Metabolic Typing will fix their health problems, I always tell them that it doesn't treat illness. Instead, it identifies fundamental imbalances that are at the root of a wide variety of physical, emotional and mental focus issues. Once identified, these imbalances are corrected with dietary modifications and nutritional supplements specific for the imbalance.

For example, when I first started following the correct diet for my metabolic type, I lost 35 pounds while eating more than I had been. It turns out that my body was hungry for the foods that it truly needed. At the same time, a wide variety of other symptoms went away - pain, emotional swings, mental fuzziness - all got better.

So, the direct answer to the question is that Metabolic Typing will help bring someone back into balance. What you might call a side effect of this rebalancing process is that symptoms of imbalance (weight gain, frequent colds, chronic pain, etc.) will be eliminated. This is because when your body is in balance, there is nothing supporting these symptoms.

The other most common question I'm asked about Metabolic Typing (MT) is what is involved to do it. Most commonly I recommend the Advanced MT testing, which is done entirely by way of an online questionnaire. There are over 140 questions on this questionnaire that help identify the state of balance of your most important underlying balancing mechanisms.

For example, in the Advanced level you get information on the balance tendencies of your autonomic nervous system (fight/flight or rest/relax), your cellular oxidation rate (how fast you burn fuel in your cells) and your endocrine dominance. You get back about 50 pages of personalized information about your state of balance.

More importantly, included in these results you get a very specific list of the foods that will help you correct any imbalances, as well as those foods that will push you further out of balance. This is powerful knowledge to have.

You also get specific suggestions about optimal ratios of proteins, fats and carbohydrates for your unique situation along with guidelines for fine-tuning your results so that they exactly match your unique needs. There are also specific supplement recommendations based on these underlying imbalances. These supplements help you speed the process of returning to optimal health.

Because 50 pages is a lot of information to assimilate, the Advanced testing includes a 55-minute consultation with me that allows us to zero in on the 5 or 6 most important concepts to get you going. This makes it much easier to implement these suggestions and gets you to your goal much more quickly.

The other thing about Metabolic Typing is that it can be done long-distance. We use email and phone calls to complete everything. I've had the opportunity to work with people in Oregon, Texas and California without the necessity of them coming into the office.

So, does Metabolic Typing 'fix' health problems? Although it is not designed to address any specific health issue directly, the end result of following your ideal metabolic diet is that whatever symptoms you have will get better as your body returns to balance.

The Advanced Metabolic Typing test, including our follow-up consultation runs $145. It does require you to have Internet access since the questionnaire is submitted online. In the rare event that someone doesn't have Internet access, we can arrange to input your answers to questions for a small additional fee.
