The G. I. Diet
Everyone is obsessed with staying young for as long as possible, which is why there are so many different diets out there. The GI Diet is one such diet which can be used to make you look young for much longer.
The low GI diet has received a lot of publicity lately; however it Ąs not actually anything that new. It was created back in 1981 by the University of Toronto! It works by removing foods that have a high glycemic index; these include things like refined sugars. This reduces the amount of glycation and so delays the onset of wrinkles.
If you have a diet which is low in GI foods then this will make your skin look much healthier, almost like an anti aging treatment. Your skin will also remain relatively blemish free.
How To Look Young With The GI Diet
All foods can have a glycemic index; this is abbreviated to GI and is worked out by looking at the structure of the carbohydrates instead of it only looking at the amount of carbohydrates in the food. Experts will take a look at how quickly the carbohydrates are absorbed by the body.
Naturally occurring sugars like fructose and lactose have a much lower GI rating than refined and processed sugars such as maltodextrin. These sugars are absorbed very quickly which gives you a sugar rush.
Your brain will send a signal to you telling you to eat when your glucose level falls below a certain point. Your body will then convert the food into glucose which can provide the energy your body needs.
If the foods you eat have a high GI level and contain refined sugar then your glucose level will increase very quickly. This will mean that your body has to release more insulin in order to get this under control this results in you feeling hungry quickly and increases the chance of you developing wrinkles. This causes collagen and elastin to be attacked which makes you look much older. Low GI foods are much better for you then high GI foods, especially for your skin.
Low GI diets should have lots of unprocessed and wholegrain foods. If you eat any bread, pasta or rice then it should be made out of whole grains or stone ground.
What Should You Eat?
Plenty of fresh vegetables, lentils and fruit will also be included. You can eat these raw, frozen or canned. Fresh fruit is best; however any type of fruit is better than nothing.
Protein is also included in the form of nuts, poultry, fish and lean red
meat. Fat free or reduced fat dairy products can also be eaten.
There are also a number of other advantages to eating a low GI diet. Low GI
diets do not increase blood sugar levels quickly which make them beneficial for
diabetics when trying to control levels of insulin and blood sugar.
It is seen as a much healthier alternative to the controversial Atkins diet
because you can still eat foods which have healthy fats like Omega 3 fatty oils.
