What's In My Chicken McNuggets???
In his 2006 book,
The Omnivore's Dilemma, New York Times
author, Michael Pollan included some
disturbing information regarding certain fast food ingredients.
One of the most disturbing items relates to McDonald's long time 'chicken' offering, McNuggets. Among the ingredients you'll find there is the oh-so-yummy and nutritious, tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ). The name alone makes you want to put down the remote to run out and get some, doesn't it?
It turns out that TBHQ in high doses creates substances leading to stomach tumors and DNA damage in lab animals. Studies also show that TBHQ can be carcinogenic with prolonged exposure.
But wait, there's more!
That's not all you get when you enjoy this luscious treat. You probably couldn't go a day without the additional sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, and my personal favorite, dimethylpolysiloxane.
Now that's a mouthful...
